Summer is here and cottonwood is clogging your unit!

Updated: Dec 11, 2020

Summer is here and the Cottonwood has pretty much stopped falling. This means that it's a good time to take a look at your condensing unit or heat pump and make sure that the coil is not all plugged up with the cotton seed that has been floating around for a month. This cottonwood seed that you see in this picture creates a wool coating over your coil and your unit cannot breathe.

When your unit can't breathe it causes your unit to work overtime especially when it's 90 degrees and over. Your unit may still cool but it is causing your electric meter to spin out of control and cost you valuable dollars on your electric bill.

There are also various screens on the market that wrap around your unit that are easy for the homeowner to clean in between seasonal cleaning. Martell Heating and Air sells a screen that's UV resistant that uses a couple bungee cords to hold in place. It's made of a durable material and works very well. Call or message if you are interested.

One last thing if you're worried about the coronavirus Martell Heating and Air is taking precautions and can wear mask and gloves inside your home. We are also not participating in any hand shaking and try to maintain the 6ft social distancing rule. Please let us know if you need any special precautions to be taken when we are service in your unit. Thank you and have a great day.
